On 22 June, the European Commission published a proposal for a binding legislation to restore nature. This is one of the key legislations stemming from the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy adopted in 2020, which includes a commitment to restoring 25 000 kilometres of free-flowing rivers in the EU. The new proposal sets a number of targets for the restoration of diverse ecosystems, including freshwaters.
Reacting to this proposal, the Living Rivers Europe (LRE) has adopted a new position paper. The European Anglers Alliance is a proud member of Living Rivers Europe (together with five additional NGOs) and has jointly collaborated with the rest of its fellow members towards constructive proposals for improving this legislative document.
