How we work

The European Anglers Alliance (EAA) is a member-led, non-profit association uniting national angling organisations that represent anglers at national level, working together to protect fish, healthy waters, and the future of recreational angling in Europe.

Its governance is built on democratic representation, transparency, and active participation by its member organisations. Strategic direction and key decisions are taken collectively, ensuring that EAA’s work reflects the priorities of recreational anglers across Europe.

The General Assembly

The General Assembly is EAA’s highest decision-making body and comprises all full member organisations. It meets once a year, usually hosted by a member organisation in a different European country.

The General Assembly:

  • sets EAA’s strategic direction and priorities

  • adopts key positions and resolutions

  • elects the Board

  • provides a forum for exchange, coordination, and discussion within the European angling community

Combined with subgroup meetings, the annual General Assembly is a central moment for dialogue on current challenges and future developments affecting recreational angling in Europe, bringing the angling community together in an open, friendly and constructive atmosphere.

The Board

EAA is overseen by a Board composed of representatives of its member organisations. Board members are elected by the General Assembly and act in the interest of the organisation as a whole.

The Board:

  • provides strategic guidance between General Assemblies

  • oversees the implementation of decisions and priorities

  • supports and coordinates the work of the standing working groups

  • represents EAA externally together with the secretariat

Subgroups & expertise

EAA’s operational and policy work is supported by three standing subgroups:

  • Sea (marine issues)

  • Freshwater (inland waters)

  • Joint issues, including communication and cross-cutting topics

Each subgroup is chaired by a member of the Board and brings together experts and representatives from member organisations. In addition, ad-hoc groups are established when specific issues require focused attention or specialised expertise.

All members are invited to participate in subgroup activities and are kept informed of outcomes and decisions, ensuring transparency and inclusive engagement.

Secretary General & Operations

The Secretary General is responsible for the coordination of EAA’s lobby and advocacy activities and its engagement with EU institutions.

Day-to-day planning of EAA’s activities relies on close cooperation between EAA’s governing bodies, subgroups, and secretariat, together with its lobby and advocacy partners. This approach enables EAA to combine strategic oversight with practical expertise and timely engagement in European policy and stakeholder processes.
